Style.com’s A-List Accessories

February 29, 2008 by Designer Ella

Just wanted to introduce you to Style.com’s Candy Pratts Price’s fave accessories from the Fall shows, and their new pictures, descriptions and — ah! — official names.

Ah, the benefit of being an insider journalist. Well, at least we get their info when they give it.

Read it (well, view it) here on Style.com.

By the way, so far, I’m noticing at least one of the same handbags. (I’ve hardly begun looking, thanks to life and its foibles getting in the way.) It’s a Dolce & Gabbana silver number.

D & G Miss Edge bag

Apparently, it’s fur and feather PRINTED with a crocodile leather edge. And called — “Miss Edge”. Ah, a new thing, eh? fur print! Brava to the D and the G for something new!

Yet More Rockin’ Skins as D & G kicks up their IT Factor

February 26, 2008 by Designer Ella

Very detailed, yet less overdone and more sophisticated (even mature) for Dolce & Gabbana are their upcoming Fall 2008 bags. Seen on the recent runway:

    D & G satchel

Burnt Orange Python & Leather Satchel Handbag w/ Shoulder Strap

    D & G silver handbag

Silver & White Satchel Handbag w/ Shoulder Strap

    D & G patchwork leather shoulder bag

    Brown Patchwork Leather Shoulder Bag

    D & G multicolor suede demi purse

    Multicolor Suede & Leather Demi

Over all, really nice, quality bags - but in a dream world they’d run for less than an IT price.

February 5, 2008 by Designer Ella

Oscar de la Renta’s bags at Fall 2008’s fashion show were all about animal skins. The rulers of this purse kingdom were:

    Dutchess:

Oscar de la Renta paternt animal gathered tote

    A taupe patent gathered tote

    Princess:

Oscar de la Renta patent grey handle clutch

a variegated grey patent round-top handle clutch - divine!!

    And, the Queen:

Oscar de la Renta lizard skin clutch

Lizard skin clutch with front poofy pocket - to die!

Marni’s Trash Sack - Are You *Fabbing* Kidding Me?

April 17, 2007 by Designer Ella

    Marni Oversized Hobo

Pictured here is an actual handbag for sale by designer, Marni. It’s huge, it’s design-less, it’s shape-less, it’s detail-less. Oh but it has a pricetag! $1230 for a sack of leather is fabbingMy F-ing word ridiculous. I would expect to see this at Target for $49. And only that much for the size and being genuine leather. And I would never expect something that looks like this to be actual leather. Or even a handbag, because this obviously is the closest thing we’ve seen lately (or EVER) to a bag just being a container for old food you don’t even want to give the dog. The ginormous size helps this image. There is nothing about this “bag” that warrants a price nearly like that, not even the Marni name (no one buys for the Marni name). I hope the brand sells 0 of this unit and they learn the hard way that the designers need to wake up in the morning and actually work at what they do, not just nap all day and be so proud of themselves that they’ve almost learned how to sketch a circle (it was a pretty shaky ellipse, the sketches of this style). Seriously, the one lone detail of the hanging plain fob just makes a bigger mockery of this whole charlatan of a purse. F for Effort for Marni on this one. You’d better do make-up work over the Summer, and when I see you again in the fall, try to be most improved.

    Hermes Kelly Shearling Muff

March 8, 2007 by Designer Ella

    Hermes Kelly Muff

I absolutely adore this Kelly-styled shearling-lined leather muff that IMHO stole the show at Hermes. The thing is I’m not sure if it’s actually a bag! It doesn’t appear to be able to fit much in it besides hands. It is definitely styled after the classic Kelly bag, though, so if it’s not a bag, I say it’s just as good—or better? One thing’s certain, this is the most stylin’ muff ever!

New Luella Bag Destined for IT

February 10, 2007 by Designer Ella

    Luella Fall 2007 bag

It’s hard to find pictures of purses at Luella’s Fall 2007 runway show, but I found one of my favorite via In My Bag. This bag in the family of Giselle, except with side belts instead of multiple full-width ones, is a new classic and one I’m really interested in. I can’t wait for it to come out for the Fall (boo hoo), in a more affordable leather, of course, and then to hopefully go on sale. Of course, if my prediction is right, this bag will have IT status - or at least it should.

It’s a bag with classy style for anyone in a tote shape with flap, lizard skin as on the runway, and what seem like two large tassels on front. Quite yummy.

Footnote: What is that which appears on this model’s feet???

Runway Letdown: What’s Up with Marc Jacobs’ Bags?

February 7, 2007 by Designer Ella

I suppose all Marc Jacobs’ bags that we love, he thinks we’ve seen too much of. For Fall 2007, he’s showing us all new styles, well only 2 of them. One is an old-fashioned (imho) flap shoulder bag with luxe skins, the other is actually a really cool oversized clutch (also with skins [ostrich pictured], also with flap).

Marc Jacobs Fall 2007 preview bag Marc Jacobs Fall 2007 preview bag

The first is so blah - Marcy, don’t expect that to go IT. Public/mag eds, don’t let that go IT!

But that clutch is pretty neat. I imagine it’s perfect to hold papers in the business world, and will be tucked inside a Birkin business bag! Ah, the dream.

A handbag though? Well, I think it’d be too clumsy to carry around. Not the dream.

Runway Bags - BCBG Max Azria Clutch

February 3, 2007 by Designer Ella
    BCBG Max Azria Clutch

Not much for bags came out of the New York fashion shows yesterday, and BCBG Max Azria has nice bags but they lean toward “inspired”. Well, this clutch is by the designer and I find it inspiring! The clutch handle is just another usual bag style but add a short chain strap and it’s suddenly twice as appealing! It’s sleek, modern and more ladylike. Done right, this feature could really dress up a purse.

Now I hope there are more great bags coming!

Fendi Spring 2007 - Clutch or Case?

November 30, 2006 by Designer Ella

    Fendi Spring 2007 clutch case

Here is a peak at one item from Fendi’s Spring 2007 bag collection. I hope this is some sort of case, but it could be a little clutch bag. It’s certainly different with that large zipper pull. I just really think this would make a cute beauty or camera case over a bag, though.

See more of the collection at Style.com.

    Valentino Intros a New Stitch

October 6, 2006 by Designer Ella

From Paris and the Valentino Spring 2007 bag collection:

    Valentino Satchel

Look at those large stitches attached with studs! So neat. I’m not crazy about the colors (lime green & pink) or the boxy, boring shape, but that stitching is enough to note & love. There’s also a pocketed bag that looks promising, but I couldn’t get a proper picture.

Just wait for the winter arrivals!
